St. Petersburg is recognized as «Europe's Leading City Destination-2019» according to the World Travel Awards (WTA), the most prestigious tourist award across the globe. The winners were announced at the Europe Gala Ceremony that was held recently in Madeira, Portugal.
The city surpassed Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Rome, Geneva, London, Moscow and Lisbon - the leader of last year.
Among other Russian winners is Aeroflot, which won the prize in several nominations: “The Best Aviation Brand of Europe”, “Best Business Class” and “Best Flights from Europe to Asia”, and Lotte Hotel Petersburg was named the leading luxury hotel in Europe.
It is not the first time that St. Petersburg becomes the WTA laureate and Europe's leading city destination. Previously, the status was assigned to the city in 2017. And in 2018, the city on the Neva became the leading cultural destination in Europe. This title Petersburg also won in 2016 and 2017.
As a reminder, earlier, within the framework of SPIEF, a presentation of infrastructure projects took place, the implementation of which will have a significant impact on the further development of the tourism industry of the city.
