In recognition of the efforts toward the preparation and holding of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree awarding The Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland II degree" to the general director of Saint Petersburg Convention Bureau Andrey Matsarin
The Medal of the Order, established in 1994, is awarded to citizens of the Russian Federation for outstanding achievements in various fields of industry, tourism, science, education, health, culture, transport and other areas of work.
The Convention Bureau of St. Petersburg under the leadership of mr. Matsarin ensures the development of the event industry in the Northern capital by attracting major international business events to the city. In 2018, the institution submitted 18 applications for holding international business events in St. Petersburg with a total number of delegates of at least 23 thousand people. The European Veterinary Congress FECAVA, the 16th Annual Meeting of the European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry, the 6th Future Leaders Forum of the World Petroleum Council and other major events- all will be held in St. Petersburg in 2019 with the participation and support of the Convention Bureau.
For first time in the history of the Northern capital, the city is also set to host the 23rd General Assembly of the UNWTO with the participation of 158 Ministers of foreign States.
"Business tourism, in particular the attraction of international business events to the city, undoubtedly makes a significant contribution to the economy of the city and the country. It stimulates the development of urban infrastructure, creates new jobs, - said Andrey Matsarin. – The team of the Convention Bureau, in close cooperation with various participants of the event industry of St. Petersburg, is actively working in this direction, attracting the largest congresses to the city, and I am sure that soon St. Petersburg will acquire the status of the business tourism capital of business tourism Russia."
