On March 20, Yevgeny Pankevich, Chairman of the Saint Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development, took part in the annual meeting with Petersburg tourism industry representatives. During the meeting he shared insights on the work aimed at the development of the city’s event industry.
According to Pankevich, the Committee for Tourism Development is increasing the number of major events in the city. The chairman noted one of newest, large-scale urban events - the Christmas Star Fire festival. In just two years, the festival managed to gain great popularity among citizens and tourists, and is constantly being compared with the famous Scarlet sails. In 2018, the city’s events organized by the Committee (the Festival of Light, Baltic Yacht Week, Icebreaker Festival, Flower Festival, Nevskaya Symphony, Restaurant Festival, Motostolitsa, 300th anniversary of Nevsky Prospect) were attended by a total of over 2 million people.
Another key focus of the Committee is the development of convention and MICE tourism. In 2018, a program of subsidizing non-profit organizations was introduced for the purpose of holding congress and exhibition events in Saint Petersburg.
