The city is a nominee in five categories at once. These include «Europe's Leading City Destination», «Europe's Leading City Break Destination», «Europe's Leading Cruise Destination» as well as «Europe's Leading Heritage Destination».
In addition, the Saint-Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development is also in the running for the Europe's Leading Tourist Board.
Voting will continue until 17 of August with anyone registered on the World Travel Awards site eligible to cast their vote. The winners of the prestigious award will be announced on 28 September in a gala ceremony held in Antalya, Turkey. Meanwile, for the first time the Grand final is planned to be held in Moscow as one of the largest events of the tourism sector.
The World Travel Awards, colloquially dubbed "the travel Oscars", was established in 1993 and is regarded as one of the most prestigious trophies in the domain of tourism.
