The electronic visa regime, which is available for citizens of 53 countries, has begun to operate in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region.
Evgeny Pankevich, Chairman of St. Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development, took part in a press conference on the rules for obtaining the e-visa.
According to the established procedure, the e-visa is issued for a single entry and for a duration of up to 30 days from the date of issue, however, the maximum stay allowed in Russia is 8 days from the date of entry and within its period of validity.
Oleg Konovalov, head of the consular department of the representative office of the Russian Foreign Ministry in St. Petersburg, said that «foreigners can fill out a visa application on the Russian Foreign Ministry website. The answer will come within 4 days. An application must be submitted at the earliest 20 days before the scheduled date of your trip and no later than 4 days before the expected date of entry into the Russian Federation.
Tourists who receive an electronic visa will not be able to leave the two regions». According to Dmitry Davidenko, representative of the Border Directorate of the Federal Security Service of Russia for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, when entering the territory, a foreign citizen is required to present an identity document, as well as a printed notice of an issued electronic visa.
«We expect a gradual increase in tourist flow, – said Evgeny Pankevich, – According to our estimates, the introduction of electronic visas can attract an approximate 2 million people to the city by 3.9 million foreign tourists who have already visited the city last year».
St. Petersburg Committee for Tourism Development has developed a memo that will help foreigners to navigate the rules for applying for an electronic visa and its use. The memo will be posted on the official resources of the committee, as well as translated into foreign languages, sent to border checkpoints, tour operators and partners in different countries.
